CITIZEN’S ACADEMY
General Information:
If you work or live in the City of Bonney Lake, you are invited to apply for the Bonney Lake Police Department Citizen's Academy! This annual event has been a huge success and citizens that have attended past sessions attest to a much better understanding of how their Police Department and the Criminal Justice system operate.
The Citizen's Academy is a 8 week, two evenings per week, classroom based course that includes hands on learning. Our goal is to foster a greater understanding with the community through education. We also have a lot of fun!
¤ Coursework
The course includes classes on criminal and civil law, firearms, patrol procedures, adult and juvenile court systems, 911 communications, crime prevention, domestic violence, narcotics, K9 demonstration, marine services, SWAT, and emergency vehicle operations.
¤ Schedule
A time commitment of two evenings per week for 8 weeks is required. The Academy is scheduled to start in April 1st 2008. Class hours are from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. There will also be one Saturday that is scheduled for firearms and emergency vehicle operation practicals. A certificate is awarded at the completion of the program.
¤ Location
Class will be held at the Bonney Lake Public Safety Building, 18421 Old Buckley Hwy, in the training room. Class size is limited, only those who register will be permitted to attend.
¤ Requirements
Applicants must be 18 years of age or a High School Senior, live and/or work in the City Of Bonney Lake and have no felony convictions or outstanding warrants. A valid driver's license is required. All applicants are subject to a background check. There is no fee to attend the Citizen's Academy. Class notebooks and identification badges will be provided to participants.
The Spring 2008 class is available for registration.
